Set along the Chippewa River just minutes from downtown Eau Claire, the Cannery District is a growing mixed-use neighborhood shaped by its industrial roots, creative character, and connection to the river. New housing, local businesses, parks, and trail connections are bringing new activity to the area while building on the makers, entrepreneurs, and community spaces that have long helped define it. With additional redevelopment opportunities still ahead, the district continues to evolve as a distinctive place to live, work, gather, and invest.

A riverfront, mixed-use neighborhood blending residential, creative, and recreation uses
The Cannery District was envisioned as a connected riverfront neighborhood that combines new development with public spaces, trails, housing, and neighborhood-serving activity. The redevelopment plan builds on the area’s industrial history and existing character while creating new opportunities to live, work, gather, and connect along the Chippewa River.
Connect to the River
Make the Chippewa River a defining part of the district by strengthening connections to trails, public spaces, river access, and the High Bridge.
Grow a Mixed-Use Neighborhood
Continue adding housing while creating opportunities for businesses, services, gathering places, and other uses that support an active neighborhood throughout the day.
Build on the District’s Creative Character
Support the makers, artists, entrepreneurs, businesses, and community spaces that give the Cannery its distinct identity and help differentiate it from other parts of the city.
Strengthen Connections
Use streets, sidewalks, trails, public spaces, and redevelopment sites to better connect the Cannery with downtown, surrounding neighborhoods, and destinations throughout the river corridor.
